The first edition of the VersusVirus Switzerland Hackathon took place in April 2020 and was set up to face the upcoming Covid-19 pandemic. The hackathon became the biggest online event in the history of Switzerland; the decision to host a Swiss-wide online hackathon had been spontaneously made two weeks prior to the event. Under the patronage of the Swiss Government, the co-organisers, lead by ImpactHub Switzerland, created a lasting event that benefited from findings and insights of the VersusVirus hackathons that took place in other countries, such as Poland and Germany. Due to its vast experience in organising hackathons, gluoNNet was an invaluable member of the organising team. Additionally, we contributed software solutions such as the web-casting tool and the event’s co-developed web application, enabling the online facilitation of the event.
